Mechanical Reliability Engineer | Iron Ore | Port Hedland | FIFO

BHP Billiton Iron Ore is one of the world's leading suppliers of iron ore. The Company's operations currently involve an integrated system of seven mines, more than 1,600 kilometres of rail and two separate world class port facilities; Nelson Point and Finucane Island at Port Hedland.

 

Position

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Engineering and Reliability within the Port / Rail team, your duties will include:

• Review plant performances and operating and maintenance practices to ensure optimum productivity;
• Recommend changes to systems, procedures, work practices and policy;
• Work towards continuous improvements in the maintenance of infrastructure and plant performance;
• Assist in the management, employment and work of external consultants that are employed to solve maintenance engineering problems;
• Ensuring maintenance procedures and instructions are adhered to;
• In conjunction with Area Supervision, coordinate the maintenance effort in line with existing maintenance systems;
• Ensure that regular testing and inspections are carried out on equipment and devices that effect maintenance and operational performance.

Skills and Experience

 

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:

• Tertiary degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics;
• Minimum 3 years in a similar role;
• Demonstrated ability to identify failure mechanisms and carry out root cause analysis;
• Proven ability to identify, analyse and specify solutions to improve the mechanical reliability of mobile;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Current full West Australian "C" class motor vehicle license or current equivalent.

Location

 

The successful applicant will have the option to work on FIFO arrangement from Perth or residential based in Port Hedland.

Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages include a fully equipped gym, tv lounge and games rooms, with access to sporting facilities close by. All rooms at the villages have their own en-suite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
