The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is one of 12 regional reserve banks in the United States, along with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., that make up the nation's central bank.The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago operates a cutting edge Technology Training Lab focused on educating regulatory staff of the Federal Reserve System, as well as other financial regulators, on the rapidly increasing contribution of IT to operations risk within the nation's monetary, financial and payment systems.
Within the Technology Lab environment a need exists for a Technology Architect to collaborate with experts from the Bank Supervision and Regulation sector in creating training content and supporting the overall technical environment for the Training Lab.
Job Summary
Responsibilities include researching, analyzing, designing and proposing requirements-based solutions that are appropriate for the business and technology needs of the Training Lab. May provide assistance as part of operations support for server management, database maintenance and network management. May develop coursework and instruct courses related to security concepts and emerging technical security trends. The level of work required is advanced and staff must be able to work under minimal supervision. This job does not have any direct reports.
Essential Duties
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technological trends and utilizes this knowledge to design innovative IT solutions that support and drive business decisions
- Interfaces across business areas to proactively assist in defining and communicating project direction
- Responsible for conception of solutions, building consensus and the selling of such solutions
- Maintains a strong understanding of the enterprise's IT systems and architectures
- Assists in the definition and analysis of requirements for the enterprise and applying emerging technologies to support tactical and strategic business objectives
- Assists in support and configuration of physical and virtual systems for network and security devices, servers and desktops
- Responsible for planning, operational and production tasks surrounding the support of week-long classes and contributes to support of class instructor teams, including becoming knowledgeable of content and designing hands-on labs, demonstrations and interactive exercises
- Responsible for researching, collecting and disseminating information on emerging technologies and the applicability throughout the enterprise
- Researches and recommends changes to foundation architectures
Interfaces with users, staff and managers to evaluate possible implementation of business enabling and cost-reducing solutions - Communicates complex technical subjects to various audiences
Develops, manages and forecasts capacity requirements based on business needs and IT infrastructure growth capacity - Ensures that capacity workload modeling and availability analysis is performed for a variety of platforms and environments
- Presents statistical availability and trend analysis and recommendations to IT management, IT leadership and business areas as needed
- The ability to effectively collaborate, clearly communicate and reach consensus is of paramount importance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Desired Skills & Experience
Education & Experience- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related fields or equivalent work experience
- Seven or more total years of experience in multiple IT infrastructure disciplines
- Three or more years of experience in systems architecture
Knowledge & Skills
- Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure, with strong understanding of the relationship between applications, databases, operating systems, processing platforms, storage platforms, security systems and networks
- Possesses and applies both specific, and broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in the field of specialization to the completion of assignments
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communications skills
