Exploration and discovery have been the driving force behind our business for nearly 150 years and the Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX) mandate is to grow our value by discovering or acquiring resources that can increase future cash-flows. The objective in RTX is the safe delivery of on average one Tier 1 discovery per annum. This is achieved through the effective application of Geoscience techniques and processes, taking account of Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC), economic, commercial and political factors.

RTX operates as a global, integrated business comprising three regional exploration teams, a Project Generation Group and three global support teams (HR, Finance & Compliance and HSEC). The work environment covers the full spectrum of geographic areas and time zones. It comprises a wide variety of countries, cultures, language groups, environments and jurisdictions.  It requires operation in co-located and virtual teams, in field and city locations, supported by effective collaboration, relationships and engagement. 
                                                                                                                                   
Exploration Eurasia is building a strong professional team in Russia to undertake the safe prospecting and technical evaluation of multiple exploration projects within the region. Exploration activities include geological prospecting, mapping, and drilling operations; complemented with community and environmental characterisation work. In complementing this team an opportunity exists in Moscow for a Senior HSEC Advisor.    Directed by the Exploration Manager and the Regional HSEC Manager, the primary purpose of this role is to provide effective HSEC delivery to new operations, to implement and contribute to the design of HSEC operational practices and to build HSEC capacity within the team. Your core accountabilities include:

• (60%) Operational Delivery – this role offers advice and technical support on field operational HSEC challenges in Russia, seeking to implement Group leading practice in areas lacking in a mature HSEC culture.
• (40%) Regional Effectiveness, Individual and Team Collaboration, Improvement Focus and People Focus – this role is critical to enable continuous improvement in our safety performance and towards operational excellence. It is also focus on developing competent employees from an HSEC leadership perspective.

Desired Skills & Experience

To be considered for this position it is essential that you have:

• A tertiary qualification in a HSEC or similar specialist field e.g. environmental science, social sciences, occupational hygiene, medicine or occupational safety
• Fluency in both Russian and English languages (there are no English speakers in camp)
• Experience working for an international company with exposure to international HSEC systems
• Proficient knowledge of the Russian HSEC-related regulations/legislation
• Field/site based experience in an HSEC Advisory role preferably within mining and exploration
• Ability to work in remote locations in the field with the project teams during field season (normally June to October)
• Ability to work Monday to Friday in Moscow office
• Ability to work well in a team
