System Engineer - Civil

Luminant, a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings, formerly TXU Corp., is the largest competitive power generation business in Texas. SYSTEM ENGINEER – CIVIL

Provides expertise to Luminant’s fossil Generation fleet in several critical plant civil/structural systems.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent will:

  • Apply sound engineering judgment and knowledge to assess dams/reservoirs, waste water systems, chimneys, and critical impoundments performance and identify and resolve plant operational and maintenance problems.

  • Identify and resolve issues arising from assessments.

  • Evaluate historical data stored in CMMS and other sources to identify trends in system reliability, and recommend appropriate data to collect for analysis.

  • Provide engineering expertise to manage the resources, technology, and documentation associated with dams/reservoirs, waste water systems, chimneys, and critical impoundments.

  • Work with OEMs, vendors, suppliers, and inspectors to establish design basis and optimal operational and maintenance approaches.

  • Work with Risk Based Inspection Specialists to help direct inspection activities.

  • Provide input to corrective action plans associated with civil/structural system issues.

  • Work closely with asset and project management in all phases of civil/structural system projects from bid specification and evaluation of new systems, project scope development, risk analyses, plus troubleshooting and upgrade evaluations on existing systems.

  • Conduct frequent assessments of the health of the equipment within the boundaries of the civil/structural system.

  • Proactively identify and communicate opportunities to improve the reliability of plant equipment within the boundaries of the civil/structural system.

  • Lead the effort in providing feasible, technical recommendations to improve the reliability and/or performance of dams/reservoirs, waste water systems, chimneys, and critical impoundments.

  • Maintain/Manage the fleet wide civil Asset Health program.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with plant Production, Maintenance, and Engineering Management.


KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:



Minimal background and knowledge requirements:

Qualifications sought in successful candidates include the following:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering along with civil or structural engineering experience.

  • Four years of power generation or six years of related industry experience.


Preferred background and knowledge requirements:

  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of dams/reservoirs, waste water systems, chimneys, and critical impoundments.

  • Working knowledge of related standards and environmental regulations.

  • Maintains acceptable balance between quality and quantity of output based on the requirements of each job assignment.

  • Works with minimal supervision.

  • Creates and/or supports new ideas to improve efficiency.

  • Completes tasks within expected time frames through proper planning and implementation

  • Communicates clearly and concisely in written, verbal, and electronic forms.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of how assigned workgroups activities impact operation/maintenance of other systems/units; uses this knowledge to maximize productivity/safety, and minimize problems.




COMMENTS:

  • Multiple grade levels are available and will depend on the experience level of the candidate and whether they have a PE.

  • Senior Engineer and higher require a PE.
