Mechanical Engineering - BHP

 
BHP Billiton New Mexico Coal operates surface and underground mines with interesting and challenging opportunities.
The Mechanical Engineer provides specialized technical support and expertise to the mine operations. This role also performs engineering improvement activities which includes structural modifications, equipment and facility modifications and develops improvement plans and standards based on sound financial, environmental, safety and engineering principles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrate and support the BHP Billiton Charter and the Code of Business Conduct.
  • mplement and promote the BHP Billiton Sustainable Development Policy and HSEC related GLDs, along with the NMC Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Develop mechanical improvement plans and standards as well as conduct proactive mechanical engineering activities at the mine site.
  • Maximize compliance with engineering plans by ensuring that all activities under the control of the Small Projects & Engineering Group are carried out in accordance with engineering processes.
  • Ensure that communication and coordination occurs between the engineering group and all other departments including key issues for the engineering group.
  • Ensure that environmental and safety aspects and risks are considered in all activities and adequately managed to the lowest level achievable.
  • Perform other assignments as directed to meet business needs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field and a minimum of two to four years of experience required; seven years of mechanical engineering experience with a P.E. registration preferred.
  • Must be able to apply technical information from a variety of sources and demonstrate a proficiency in advanced mathematical skills, analysis and approaches to facilitate the decision making process.
  • Must have exceptional management skills including the ability to plan, organize and complete multiple, complex projects simultaneously within established time and budget constraints as well as the ability to successfully formulate strategies to resolve complicated issues.
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to successfully interact at all levels of the organization and work effectively in a customer oriented, rapidly changing environment essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of MS Office Suite required.
  • Must be aware of the hazards and risks involved in the mining environment and demonstrate a pattern of conduct consistent with the acceptance of responsibility for encouraging a safe work environment.
  • Consistent history of satisfactory performance, including attendance, is mandatory.
