Job Description:
Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Product Design and Development Lead Engineer opening to join our KitchenAid Small Appliance organization.
Day to Day (what a typical day or week look like in this role)
You will be the Technical Lead for a KitchenAid Small Appliance product category - designing and developing products such as #1 rated hand mixers, stand mixers and blenders. You will lead and execute projects from concept to Product Approval (PA) for a category of internally designed KitchenAid small appliances to include domestic and international models. You will be accountable for the delivery of all technical deliverables to create a product that meets or exceeds all approval criteria.
What You Will Do
  • Lead and execute all technical aspects of new product development projects on time, on cost and at best quality.
  • Manage technical project schedules for the entire product through process partners and suppliers.
  • Set project priorities and direct work of matrixed CAD designers and subsystem engineers.
  • Gain, maintain and share small appliance product design knowledge
  • Work with Small Appliance E&T leadership, PALO, procurement, marketing, GCD and manufacturing to deliver products from concept to PA.
  • Identify New, Unique and Difficult product attributes and the evaluation of design options to achieve desired results.
  • Manage concept testing, prototype builds, engineering builds and pre-pilot builds
  • Partner with PALO to develop test plans, write lab requests and develop DVP&R throughout the course of the project.
  • Review test results to ensure they meet all technical requirements and work with codes to evaluate compliance to agency requirements.
  • Conduct design reviews and incorporate learning into product designs.
  • Prepare and direct preparation of Engineering documentation (ECNs, BOMs, Drawings, Specs).
  • Use and complete fundamental engineering tools (FMEA, SBD, DFS, OPEX/Six Sigma)
  • 10% travel (mostly domestic)
Qualifications
What You Need To Succeed
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Minimum)
  • 10 years + work experience
  • Strong critical thinking and issue follow-up and resolution skills
  • Excellent ability to identify and drive resolution to engineering problems
  • Strong initiative and self - drive
  • Technical Project Management Experience
  • Attention to details
  • Good Organizational, Communication, analytical, and Interpersonal Skills
  • Black belt certification is a plus
  • Computer skills including Excel, Project, and Word
  • Ability to travel to manufacturing locations in the USA and global suppliers
