Job Description


Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Engineer: Planning to join their Technical Services department at St Ives Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Unit Manager: Technical Services, you will be responsible for facilitating the optimal extraction of gold ore from mining operations through the provision of comprehensive open pit project planning, evaluation, and scheduling services that achieves medium to long term requirements of the business in alignment with EHS standards.

This role is offered on a 5 days on 2 days off roster and would require the incumbent to be residential in Kalgoorlie or Kambalda.
WIFI enabled coach transportation is offered to and from site daily and relocation assistance will be offered to the successful candidate if required.


Key responsibilities will include;

  • Undertake open pit mine optimisation, design and evaluation work along with capital project planning such that can be utilised for budget and implementation purposes.
  • Liaise with operational and service departments to enable compilation of achievable mine plans.
  • Actively participate in operational reviews of performance with the aim of constantly improving the mine planning processes.
  • Ensure that all members of the mining team have clear understanding and direction of objectives through the coordination of regular planning meetings, ensuring deliverables are accurately recorded and distributed.
  • Ensure the business can make informed decisions by developing, implementing and monitoring of reporting information (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually) for managing target delivery, safety, identifying and planning short term extraction strategies, critical path and high exposure areas.
  • Ensure maximum return on investment by carrying out optimisation, design and evaluation work, calculating ore reserves in accordance with established planning policies such as cut-off grades and legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement by contributing to the optimisation of systems, processes and practices, regularly reviewing and identifying new opportunities, developing these on instruction.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Mining Engineering
  • 3 - 5 years underground/surface engineering with exposure to drill & blast, load & haul, production engineering, projects, planning and scheduling – preferably gold
  • Minimum 6 months practical experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Datamine, EPS, Deswik
