Fortescue Metals Group is one of the world's largest iron ore producers. Our mines, heavy haul railway and deepwater, multi-user port are located in the heart of the Pilbara - the world's best address for iron ore. Built from the ground up from grass roots exploration, we've produced and exported more than 180 million tonnes of iron ore in less than four years but we're not stopping there.
By the end of March 2013, Fortescue's transformative expansion program to increase our production to 115 million tonnes per annum will be complete. Our plans involve expanding our port and rail operations, upgrades to our existing mines and the development of our Firetail deposit at an exciting new mine called Solomon.
Reporting to the Shutdown Superintendent at our Port Operations, the Shutdown Supervisor will manage teams of maintainers and contractors in the workplace in order to control integrated shutdown schedules, such that teams can execute shutdowns within a planned environment according to Port's operational and performance requirements.
You will be accountable for the following:
  • Effectively control all aspects of shutdown works and any other works associated as required.
  • Effectively work with all contractors ensuring positive working relationships with high productivity and quality achieved from the team.
  • Provide visible safety leadership by modelling positive safety behaviours to all staff and contractors.
  • Assist in risk assessments as required Carry out Hazard / Incident reporting and participate in SAO programme.
  • Propose improvement solutions based on anticipated or recurring problems and submit these to the Shutdown manager for approval.
  • Anticipate and resolve barriers to improving operational performance.

To be successful in this role you will be required to have:
  • Experience in shutdown supervision with extensive post trade experience.
  • The ability to clearly demonstrate your problem solving skills.
  • Confidence to communicate across all levels of the maintenance function.
  • Sound organisational, communicational and presentation skills.
  • Leadership of small groups of technical, trades and operators.
  • Application and use of CMMS maintenance management systems (i.e. JDE, SAP, MIMS).
  • Root cause analysis and reliability centred maintenance analysis.
  • A post trade experience will be an advantage.
Exposure with the following equipment would also be highly desirable for this role:
  • Metso Train unloaders experience
  • Thyssen Krupp balance machines experience
  • Conveyor braking system

Residential or FIFO - 8/6 roster.
